Charles Gatling was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. His love for music started at the early age of 9 with his father always playing various genres of music on his record player. Listening to New York radio stations with countless mix shows, Charles became interested in mixing music, and at the age of 16 Charles purchased his first set of turntables, two Technics, and a mixer. This was the beginning of his over 25 years of spinning records as a dj.Additionally, Charles had a deep passion for music production. Upon deciding to pursue his passion, Charles, along with John Crockett, formed the production team, Working Underneath LLC in 2000.
